I almost forgot to mention. Families expect homework daily, and the children complete it (even the smallest ones). Homework might be literacy based (tracing a letter), math based (tracing a number, drawing shapes, coloring patterns), or science or religious based (identifying body parts, praying a special prayer). All of the children take home notebooks with the nightly homework...
...that the teacher traced or hand-wrote for each child.
I now sympathize with these teachers. A class of 40 children. Writing the homework 40 times for each child. And they receive at most, 20 soles a day, essentially $6 a day. I think I just might sit at my desk as the children run wild, too.
